Ecclesiastes

Ecclesiastes is wisdom literature that features a teacher sharing his knowledge about the futility of life. The teacher says “I denied myself no pleasure” (Ecc. 2:10). He experienced everything people turn to when searching for fulfillment: wealth, comfort, food, sex, vocational success, and intellectual accomplishments.  The conclusion he arrived at was that apart from God life is completely meaningless. “That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty” (Ecc 12:13). Life is simply hopeless without God at the center, and the book of Ecclesiastes depicts this. Thankfully, this whole book points to a desire and longing within every heart to experience true abundant life. This meaningful life is found only in Jesus!
